When you think of handmade pine furniture, do you think of a workshop filled with wood shavings, smelling of wax and paint, situated in rural countryside, with dappled light and the distant cluck of chickens? If you do, then you have just conjured up the R Froud workshop! Nestled in the heart of West Sussex, 5 miles from Chichester it is an Aladdin’s cave of furniture loveliness!
Robert (Bob) Froud – oil rigger to carpenter in 40 short years!
Bob, as you may have guessed from the company name, is Managing Director of R Froud. Starting his early working days as a derrickman on oil rigs, he took the random leap to become a French polisher for antiques. During this time, he developed a love for pine furniture and learnt how to strip, preserve and wax the furniture; however, this was not enough for him - he wanted to learn how it was made. Bob moved on to making the furniture from scratch and his love of carpentry and working with pine has stayed with him over the 40 years.

Bob and his team are passionate about the business and creating handmade pine furniture, at affordable prices, for family homes around the south of England. His wardrobes and tables can be seen in houses from Brighton to Bournemouth and Chichester to London.

Schoolbooks, coffee cups and IPads
Our furniture is hardwearing because we know that in the course of a week, one of our pine tables is likely to have had school books flung on it, IPads charged on it, meals eaten off it, cats walked over it and Sunday papers read on it. It may be inanimate, but we know and understand that this pine table is your pine table and very much part of your everyday family life.
